Digital Restoration for Documents and Photos
There are countless ways that a physical document or photograph can receive damage. Passage of time, natural disaster, water exposure, chemical damage from glues or plastic holders, excessive note-taking, and childhood scribbles can all render pages crumbling and illegible. For organizations, museums, governments, and preservation-minded families, Anderson Archival’s digital document restoration service is a vital resource.
Restoration Without Damage
Digital document and photo restoration is all about creating a digital copy that is accurate to the original artifact when it was created. In the careful scanning process, all aspects of the document are reproduced—including physical damage and print-obscuring aspects. Our digital preservation experts take these digital images through a cleaning process restoring them to their original glory.
Water Damage and Defacement
When pages are stained or someone has scribbled in the margins, we make the problem areas look like new.
Faded Photographs
We bring old photos back to life after years of age degradation and light damage.
Color and Background Adjustments
We clean up backgrounds to improve readability and adjust colors for either accuracy or enhancement.
AI-Guided Photo Restoration
Some damage is too much without help. AI can bring out details in blurry photos or generate missing areas.
How Does Digital Document and Photo Restoration Work?
Digital document restoration services do not change the original. Instead, this process creates a digital copy that is guaranteed to last in the digital landscape far longer than a physical copy or restoration of the original. This process can also be implemented in the broader effort of creating a digital archive for historical materials. Digitally restored and cleaned documents showcase the original form—preserving it for research, education, and posterity.

Background Color Removal
Sometimes the background color can make it difficult to see the information clearly. These images had the background color removed while maintaining the rest of the colors in the image. These produced clean, bold images that easily look like new.
Water Damage Repair and Text Replacement
This proclamation from the Mayor of St. Louis that celebrated the anniversary and community involvement Helen and Anthony Colombo was unfortunately marked by Tommy the cat. Detailed digital restoration restored it back to new. The second image, a resolution regarding the Colombos’ anniversary, had a typo in Helen’s maiden name. Anderson Archival carefully replaced the letter to fix this historical mistake.
